ULTRA RARE! Specialized DuPont Carbon Tri-Spoke Front / Rear Track Wheel Tubular

  

Up for offer is a classic, in a very hard to find color, Black & (Orange)Yellow, 700c Tri-Spoke, tubular, rim brake road wheel for use on the front -or- rear of a track bike. (100mm spacing) This wheel was gathered from the collection of an aging rider after having seen little use the past 20+ years. The wheel will come to you in the very good used condition seen in the included photographs. The spacing is standard for framesets that use a 100mm fork -or- "Track spacing" for the rear, which is 100mm rather than 130mm rear "Road" dropout. Please note that neither quick release skewers nor brake pads are included.

The wheel was inspected at the bike shop it was photographed in. This wheel runs very true for a tri-spoke, with 1.5mm deviation.

The tire included is old but I'd reckon rideable. The sidewalls are slightly brittle but not crumbling... Please do not include any value for the tire. Some history value: This wheel is from the early days of wind tunnel aerodynamics research and featured a three spoke carbon fiber spoke design bonded to an aluminum braking track. The rest is history as these wheels became icons of aerodynamic wheel design!

Overall I would assess the condition as 6.5 out of 10 with typical signs of prior use. The brake surface shows scuffing from pad contact and the decals are peeling, peeled off on the pictured points. There is a smattering of dings and imperfections to the leading edges of the airfoil rims and spokes but nothing that affects the structural soundness of the set. As with all bonded carbon fiber wheels, this wheel CANNOT BE TRUED and show the common "sway" of a few millimeters in each direction when reviewed in a truing stand.

Bearings spin smooth and easy. The pictures certainly do not do the wheel justice, but most importantly emphasize any imperfections! Please see the included pics of the actual wheel that you will receive. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
